A few weeks ago, I participated in an open verse challenge. I gave myself a strict 2-hour deadline to write, record, and let it be "good enough." Later, I found out the host gave my entry a 12/25 and said she hated it!
And I took that personal and found it to be refreshingly freeing, and deeply inspiring. It reminded me how important it is to create things we like, stop stressing over external validation, and build spaces where artists can actually practice and try new things safely.
So, I’m hosting my own—an Open (re)Verse Challenge.
I’m dropping in my verse (recorded over 3 different beats produced by the brillian Abreezy the Kid), and leaving the rest of the track wide open for whosoever will to practice whatsoever they want.
Producers & Arrangers who want to build a track around existing vocals.
Vocalists & Songwriters who want to add harmonies, hooks, or full arrangements.
Engineers who want practice mixing or mastering a project.
Download the Stems: Get the project files (LOGIX & AAF) down below ($10 each) or get all 3 versions free as one of the REGULARS on Patreon.
Do Your Thing: Put your spin on it. Spend an hour or spend a week. Produce the whole thing or just a piece — just have fun with it.
Show Up on August 21st: We’ll host a community listening party where you get to talk about your process, share your work with family and friends, and connect with other creatives. We'll end the night by letting the community curate a playlist of our favorite tracks.
No ratings. No flippant rejection. Just a space to create, share, find and connect with your people.
